Data Sources

Where Co-Op Now gets its data, what we collect, what we don't, and what limitations you should be aware of.

Game Metadata

Co-Op Now aggregates publicly available game data from multiple sources:

  • Steam Store API — Game titles, descriptions, genres, store categories, system requirements and release dates. Steam's multiplayer categories are stored as source signals: they are an input that flags a game for review, not the final answer for what kind of co-op it has.
  • Co-Op Now's own co-op record — Whether a game has online co-op, local/couch co-op, split-screen or LAN, and how many players fit in one co-op group, is stored in our own reviewed fields. Each capability is tracked independently, and party sizes carry an explicit confidence level.
  • IsThereAnyDeal — Multi-store pricing data and historical prices across authorized game retailers.

If a game's co-op status, player count, or pricing is missing from our sources, we show "Unknown" rather than guessing. A missing fact is never turned into a "No".

Steam Library Data

When users link their Steam account, Co-Op Now reads their publicly visible game library — the same list anyone can see on their Steam profile if it's set to public. This is used to find co-op games a group owns in common.

Steam linking works by pasting your public Steam ID or profile URL. Co-Op Now never asks for or stores Steam passwords. Library sync is read-only — it accesses only your public game list.

If a user's Steam profile or game list is set to private, library sync will not work until the user changes their Steam privacy settings.

Pricing & Deals Data

Game pricing is sourced from the IsThereAnyDeal API, which aggregates prices across authorized game retailers. Co-Op Now displays current prices and historical lows where available.

Prices and deals can change quickly. The data shown on Co-Op Now may not reflect the most recent price at the time you view it. Always verify the final price on the retailer's site before purchasing.

Community Votes & Crossplay Data

Several types of data on Co-Op Now come directly from the community:

  • Game ratings — Users rate games as Like, Super Like, or pass. These ratings power rankings and group voting.
  • Crossplay reports — Users can suggest and vote on whether a game supports cross-platform play and which platforms are compatible. Community reports are one evidence path, not the whole picture: each game also carries its own crossplay status, and community-reported or partial crossplay keeps its caveat instead of being shown as confirmed. Being available on several platforms never counts as crossplay evidence.
  • Profile preferences — Schedule availability, language, play style, and other optional signals used for player matching.

All user-provided data is optional. The platform works with whatever information users choose to share.

PC Requirements & Compatibility Data

System requirements for PC games are parsed from publicly available Steam store data. CPU and GPU names are normalized to known hardware benchmarks so they can be compared against a user's entered specs.

When Steam's requirement text is too vague to parse accurately (e.g., "a modern processor"), results are flagged as approximate rather than treated as definitive.

What We Do Not Collect

  • No Steam passwords — Co-Op Now never asks for or stores your Steam password. You link your account by pasting a public Steam ID or profile URL.
  • No private Steam data — Only your publicly visible game library is accessed. Private data such as friend lists, purchase history, chat messages, and payment information is never read.
  • No payment details stored — If you use optional supporter tiers, payments are handled by a third-party payment provider. Co-Op Now does not see or store card numbers or billing details.
  • No publisher partnerships — Game data comes from publicly available APIs, our own reviewed records and community input, not from direct partnerships with game publishers or platform holders.

Data Limitations

Co-Op Now relies on external sources and community input. Users should be aware of these limitations:

  • Store metadata can be incomplete — Game descriptions, genres, or co-op classifications on Steam may be missing, outdated, or incorrectly tagged by publishers.
  • PC requirements can be vague — Some games list imprecise hardware requirements that are difficult to parse into meaningful compatibility checks.
  • Crossplay support can change — Developers may add or remove cross-platform support in patches, so crossplay records may not reflect the latest game version. Platform availability is not crossplay.
  • Player counts are group-based — "How many can play together" means one co-op group. Lobby, server, match or session capacity is tracked separately and never used as proof that a whole party fits together, and unconfirmed group sizes stay unverified.
  • Prices change quickly — Deals and discounts can appear and expire at any time. Always verify the current price on the retailer's site.
  • Community data evolves — Ratings, crossplay votes, and other community-sourced data reflect current user input and may change over time.

Trust & Independence

  • Co-Op Now is an independent project. It is not affiliated with Valve, Steam, game publishers, or game retailers.
  • User data is not sold to third parties or used for advertising.
  • Users can permanently delete their account and all associated data from their settings page at any time.
