How to Find Co-Op Games to Play With Friends

Finding a co-op game everyone in your group actually wants to play is harder than it sounds. Different tastes, different libraries, different schedules — this guide walks you through a system that works.

Start With What You Already Own

Before buying anything new, compare your group's existing libraries. You probably share more games than you think. Co-Op Now's Steam Library Sync lets you sync Steam libraries and instantly see every co-op game your group has in common — no spreadsheets required.

Filter by What Matters

Not all co-op games are equal. Some need 4 players, some only work with 2. Some are 30-minute sessions, others are 100-hour RPGs. Filter by player count, session length, and genre to narrow down your options. Don't forget to check crossplay support if your group plays on different platforms.

Vote, Don't Argue

The biggest time waste in gaming groups is the "what should we play?" debate. Instead of arguing in Discord, use a voting system. Everyone swipes on games they'd play, and the one with the most votes wins. Co-Op Now's Game Voting feature was built specifically for this.

Check PC Compatibility

Nothing kills game night faster than someone who can't run the game. Before committing, make sure everyone's PC meets the requirements. Co-Op Now's PC Requirements Checker lets each member input their specs once, then shows a green/yellow/red indicator for every game.

Try Short Sessions First

Don't commit to a 60-hour RPG on the first night. Start with games that have short session loops — 30 to 60 minutes per round. Deep Rock Galactic, Phasmophobia, and Lethal Company are perfect for testing whether a game clicks with your group before investing more time.

Schedule and Commit

The best game in the world doesn't matter if nobody shows up. Use a scheduler to find overlapping availability, then lock in a recurring game night. Even once every two weeks keeps momentum. Co-Op Now's Game Night Planner helps find the time slot that works for the most members.
